Coffee Case File 046 Status: DECLASSIFIED

Ethiopia usually gets the spotlight when people think of bright, fruit-forward African coffees. But Burundi sits right next door, and in a lot of ways, it offers a similar experience—just a little more balanced and approachable.

This lot, Incuti, sourced through JNP Coffee, is a great example of what Burundi does well.

In the cup, you’ll get cherry right away—clean, natural fruit, not overly sweet or artificial. As it cools, a vanilla-like sweetness comes through that adds some roundness and body. Then it finishes with a light jasmine note, giving it a soft floral edge without being overpowering.

Overall, it’s a really structured coffee. You get fruit, sweetness, and florals—but everything is in balance. Nothing is screaming for attention, and that’s kind of the point.

If you’ve had Ethiopian coffees before, this will feel familiar—but a little more grounded and easy to drink. If you haven’t, this is a great place to start with East African coffees.

Burundi might not get the same hype, but coffees like this are exactly why we keep bringing them in. Clean, consistent, and just really good.
